BIOGRAPHY
It’s been a busy year for Scandinavia’s No. 1 show DJ Mikey Mic, who released his debut single “Swedish Girls” through his record label, Superheroes Music Ltd, in May. The controversial video shook Stockholm; now it’s bound for the rest of the world.
Winner of Sweden best Dj 2008. Mikey Mic got instant international attention with his remix of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” in 2009. It was featured in the Rolling Stone and all over the blogosphere. Two remixes followed: Pharoahe Monch’s Simon Says and Marvin Gaye’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, which earned a No.1 spot on the world’s biggest blog aggregator – The Hype Machine. A global soul, Mikey Mic has played in some of the hottest clubs in the world, including New York and London. In addition to his own shows, Mikey Mic has performed with and DJ-ed for 50 Cent, David Guetta, Bhusta Rhymes, Flo Rida, Mims, Sisqo and September. He has also worked and toured all over Europe, including France, Austria and Spain. In June 2010, he was invited to play at the Love Stockholm 2010 festivities during the Royal Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria.
It all started in 1978 Portand, Jamaica, where Lance Michael Carby was born. Mic’s mother loves music and when he grew up, she played all kinds of genres around the house. Reggae, jazz, soul, country, R&B and Rock ‘n’ Roll, Little Mic could not get enough. In his teens Mikey Mic moved to England, but also spent a lot of time in the States. At 12 Mikey Mic got a gift of enormous symbolic value from his grandmother – a gramophone turntable that once had belonged to his father. The turntable gramophone was a simple player. but had tremendous sentimental value for Mic as his father died when he was just a baby. His love for the turntables was born and he began experimenting.

The years spent in the U.S. had a great impact in molding Mikey Mic into the talented DJ he is today. Funkmaster Flex, Rock Raida, influenced him and DJ Cash Money, who are all great technical and Club DJs. Mic studied them, did his homework and began developing his own style.
In England, Mikey Mic worked hard to fulfill his mother’s dream (and demand) – to get a college education. While studying electrical and mechanical engineering, Mic kept DJ-ing as a hobby, but as soon as he finished, he dedicated himself one hundred percent to the craft. He played in several of the central London hot spots and started his own show on a pirate radio station, where he developed his stage presence and mastered the mic!
Mikey Mic ended up in Sweden by coincidence when he and some of his friends arranged an event at Dr. Alban’s club, Stacey, in the early 2000s. Someone saw Mic playing and asked if he would do a tour. He did, people loved him and he has stayed ever since. It was in Sweden, Mikey Mic established himself as a fulltime DJ. He has been a resident DJ at some of Stockholm’s most sizzling clubs, including F12 and Sturecompagniet. By now Mikey Mic’s style is anchored.

When other DJs commonly stick to one genre, Mikey Mic is a daredevil. He creates an edge by incorporating club music, turntablism and fusing different genres of music together in tantalizing sets – Billie Jean – One More Time – Sympathy For The Devil – 99 Problems- paper plans. To top it off he uses his stage presence to possess his audience’ every move.
By the release of “Swedish girls”, Mikey Mic is taking his skills one step further and will focus on producing music. He is currently working on new releases due in the spring of 2011. When he’s not making music or playing at clubs and large events, Mic is teaching young aspiring DJs the tricks of his trade. With his DJ academy, Select DJ, Mikey Mic intends to help shaping the next generation, preach his gospel and build his brand.
